Stock cabinets solve a standard problem.
A 24-inch box goes into a 24-inch space, and if your wall measures 26¾ inches, you get a 3-inch filler strip and you learn to live with it.
Custom cabinetry starts from the opposite premise: the room is the specification, not the catalog. And CNC manufacturing is what made that premise affordable. Twenty years ago, a carved door panel or a run of perfectly matched dado joints meant hours of skilled hand labor. Today the same program that cuts one door cuts the entire kitchen — with identical tolerances on cabinet number one and cabinet number forty.

Design Ideas: What Custom Actually Buys You
The most common misconception about custom cabinetry is that it’s stock cabinets in nicer wood. The real value is in the things stock cabinets structurally cannot do.
1. Dimensions that match the room, not the catalog
This is the unglamorous one that matters most. Non-standard ceiling heights, awkward corners, a chimney breast, a window that sits three inches off-center — these are the details that make a stock kitchen look almost right. Cabinets cut to your actual measurements eliminate fillers, scribing, and the shimming that installers do to make a rectangle fit a room that isn’t one.
Tall ceilings are the clearest case. Rather than stopping uppers at 84 inches and leaving a dust-collecting gap, you run cabinetry to the ceiling and recover a full extra shelf across the whole kitchen.
2. Decorative door and end panels
Here’s where CNC changes what’s economically sensible. A flat slab door is a flat slab door — but a CNC router can carve a 3D wave pattern, a fluted profile, a geometric lattice, or genuinely custom artwork directly into the door face for a fraction of what carving by hand would cost.

3. Mixed materials and finish zones
A kitchen doesn’t have to be one thing. Painted MDF on the perimeter with a walnut or white oak island is a well-worn strategy for a reason: it puts the expensive material only where it’s seen, and the paint-grade MDF actually machines better than hardwood for crisp profiled edges.

4. Integrated appliance panels
Panel-ready dishwashers and refrigerators disappear into the run. This requires cabinetry cut to the appliance’s exact specification — which is precisely what a stock catalog can’t promise, since the panel dimensions change with every appliance model.
5. Interior engineering
Pull-out pantry systems, custom-partitioned utensil drawers, spice pull-outs sized to your jars, tray dividers, corner solutions that actually reach the corner. CNC handles this well because shelf-pin holes, slide mounting holes, and dividers are all programmed in the same operation as the box.
6. Lighted and open display elements

7. Cabinetry that continues into the rest of the interior
The strongest custom projects don’t stop at the kitchen. When the same manufacturer produces your cabinetry and your wall panels, the fluted profile on the island can repeat on the dining room wall, in the same material, from the same program — a coordination that’s nearly impossible when panels and cabinets come from two different suppliers.
What Custom Kitchen Cabinets Cost in 2026
Honest framing first: published averages blend a painted poplar kitchen in rural Ohio with a rift-cut white oak inset kitchen on the Philadelphia Main Line. Treat the numbers below as orientation, not a quote.
The tiers
Cabinet pricing is usually quoted per linear foot, measured along the wall run and including both uppers and lowers. A standard 10×10 kitchen is roughly 20 linear feet; a 10×12 with an island runs closer to 25–30.

A useful rule of thumb: each tier roughly doubles the previous one. And by NKBA figures, cabinetry typically absorbs about 29% of a total kitchen remodel budget — so a $50,000 remodel implies roughly $14,500 in cabinets, which lands squarely in the custom range. Many homeowners are already budgeting for custom without realizing it.
What moves the number
- Wood species. Maple and oak are the workhorses. Cherry and walnut carry a real premium. Rift-cut white oak and exotics sit at the top. The species premium alone on a full kitchen can run $4,000–$10,000+.
- Door construction. Full-overlay Shaker is the most economical custom door — efficient to produce, and still the default modern look. Inset doors add roughly 15–25% to the door component.
- Hardware. European soft-close from Blum or Hettich, rated past 200,000 cycles, typically adds $800–$2,500 across a kitchen. This is the single best predictor of how the cabinets feel in year ten.
- Interior accessories. Roughly $50–$500 each, depending on complexity.
- Integrated lighting. $500–$3,000 depending on how many zones.
- Installation. Usually 15–25% of total project cost — about $50–$90/linear foot for a straight swap, $80–$150 if the layout changes.
- Line items that hide in quotes. Crown molding ($15–$40 per installed linear foot), finished interiors ($50–$150 per cabinet), toe-kick and shoe molding. These are inconsistently included across vendors, which is a large part of why two quotes for the “same” kitchen can differ by 60%.
Where CNC trade manufacturing changes the math
Most of the ranges above are retail, installed, through a dealer — and dealer markup on semi-custom typically runs 30–50% over manufacturer cost.
Buying factory-direct, flat-packed components removes that layer. You’re purchasing precision-cut, pre-machined, labeled parts — boxes, doors, drawer fronts, panels — and your own team assembles and installs. For contractors, designers, and cabinet shops, that is a materially different number than the retail column. It also means the “installed” figures above don’t apply directly: installation is your line item, not ours.
Two ways to save without cheapening the result
- Zone your spend. Custom where it’s seen, simpler where it isn’t. Nobody photographs the inside of the broom closet.
- Simplify the door, not the box. A full-overlay slab or Shaker door in a great material beats an ornate door in a mediocre one, and costs less.
The Process: From Idea to Installed Kitchen
Step 1 — Measure and define the scope
Get your dimensions, note the ceiling height, and mark every immovable object: windows, plumbing stacks, HVAC returns, load-bearing walls. Then decide what you’re actually solving for. More storage? A specific look? Better flow? Projects that drift over budget almost always started without this answer.
Step 2 — Design and drawings
The design gets developed in cabinet design software — Corint works in AutoCAD and Mozaik, and also accepts Cabinet Vision, SketchUp, or detailed dimensioned PDFs. If you have a hand sketch with measurements, that can be drawn up for you.
This is where materials, edge banding, hardware prep, and door style get locked down. It’s also the cheapest possible moment to change your mind. Moving a cabinet in the drawing costs nothing; moving it after the CNC has cut it costs a panel.
Step 3 — Quote
A detailed quote comes back within 24 hours — material costs, cut list, and lead time. When comparing quotes from any source, check line by line whether molding, finished interiors, hardware, and installation are in or out.
Step 4 — Approve the drawings
Nothing gets cut until drawings are signed off. Read them properly. Check appliance dimensions against the openings, confirm hinge sides, verify the ceiling height. Approval is the point of no return — the CNC will build exactly what the file says.
Step 5 — CNC production
Every component is programmed and machined: dado joints, hinge boring, shelf-pin holes, drawer slide mounting holes, edge banding. Parts arrive ready to assemble with no further machining.
Joinery is specified to the project — blind dado, dowel, qualified tenons, or screw assembly — chosen against your material, budget, and durability requirements. This is the step where CNC earns its keep: consistency doesn’t degrade between the first box and the hundredth.
Step 6 — Flat-pack and ship
Components are nested, palletized, and labeled part by part and layer by layer for orderly on-site unpacking. Flat-packing cuts freight cost and eliminates the transit damage that pre-assembled boxes are prone to. Tampa Bay clients can pick up directly and skip freight entirely.
Step 7 — Assembly and installation
Your installer or contractor assembles from the labeled components and installs. Standard sequence: level the base cabinets first (the floor is never flat), then uppers, then doors and drawer fronts, then hardware and adjustment. Countertop templating happens after the base cabinets are set — never before.
Timeline
Corint’s standard production is 2–3 weeks from approved drawings, with rush options available. Note this is production time, not project time. A full kitchen remodel, from design approval through installation, more commonly runs 8–16 weeks once you include design iteration, demo, and trades — and complex finishes can extend that further.
